Neck & Back Pain

Facet Joint Arthritis:

The facet joints, located on the back portion of the spine, consist of two opposing bony surfaces, with cartilage between them. Facet joint arthritis causes the cartilage to breakdown, resulting in more joint friction, loss of motion, and pain.

WHAT DOES FACET JOINT ARTHRITIS FEEL LIKE?
Typically pain and stiffness from this condition is more severe in the morning. As you move throughout the day, fluid builds up in the joint, so it is better lubricated.

CONSERVATIVE TREATMENT OPTIONS
Stretching exercises can help prevent the pain from getting worse. Non-prescription pain medication may also be prescribed. Surgery is used only for severe cases.

HOW COMMON IS FACET JOINT ARTHRITIS?
Some studies show that more than half of adults over the age of 65 have this condition.
