Discography is a technique used to identify the source of pain in the spine. Gentle pressure is placed into the discs of the spine through injection of an x-ray dye, and based on the presence or absence of pain, Dr. Tariq can determine if a particular disc is causing pain.

WHY WOULD I NEED A DISCOGRAPHY?
This procedure helps Dr. Tariq know what further treatment is best for you. Knowing the true source of pain is a vital step in feeling better.

WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE LIKE?
The procedure usually takes about 30-45 minutes. You will receive local anesthetic to numb the injection site. Dr. Tariq will inject normal, healthy discs, and the abnormal discs, so there is contrast. You will feel pain when the problematic disc is injected, and will need to communicate to the doctor what you are feeling.

AFTER CARE
It is recommended that you take some time off after a discography procedure, but this isn’t always necessary.
